Fusion is a CAD (computer-aided design) software developed by Autodesk. It is used for 3D design and modeling in various industries, including mechanical, architectural, engineering, construction, and many others. Fusion enables users to create highly accurate 3D models, using advanced tools to create complex shapes and assemblies.

The file extensions associated with Fusion include .f3d, .f3z, .f2d, .dwg, .dxf, and many others. The primary file format used by Fusion is the F3D file, which contains all design information, including parts, assemblies, sketches, workspaces, and materials used. F3D files are compatible with other Autodesk CAD software such as AutoCAD and Inventor, as well as other CAD software such as SolidWorks, Catia, and Creo.

In terms of CAD interoperability, Fusion offers a range of capabilities that allow users to collaborate with other users and work with design data from different sources. Fusion has tools for importing and exporting files in a variety of formats, allowing users to share 3D models with others and work with design data from different sources.

The file extensions supported by Fusion 360 software include:

  • Autodesk Alias (*.wire).
  • AutoCAD DWG Files (*.dwg).
  • Autodesk Fusion 360 Archive Files (*.f3d).
  • Autodesk Fusion 360 Toolpath Archive Files (*.cam360).
  • Autodesk Inventor Files (*.ipt, *.iam).
  • CATIA V5 Files (*.CATProduct, *.CATPart).
  • DXF Files (*.dxf).
  • FBX (*.fbx).
  • IGES (*ige, *iges, *igs).
  • NX (*prt).
  • OBJ (*.obj).
  • Parasolid Binary Files (*.x_b).
  • Parasolid Text Files (*.x_t).
  • Pro/ENGINEER and Creo Parametric Files (*.asm, *.prt).
  • Pro/ENGINEER Granite Files (*.g).
  • Pro/ENGINEER Neutral Files(*.neu).
  • Rhino Files (*.3dm).
  • SAT/SMT Files (*.sab, *.sat, *.smb, *.smt).
  • SOLIDWORKS Files (*.prt, *.asm, *.sldprt, *.sldasm)
  • STL Files (*.stl).
  • SketchUp Files (*.skp).
  • 123D File (*.123dx).

Old native file formats are compatible with the new versions of Fusion. Native file formats are NOT backwards compatible; new files cannot be read by old versions of Fusion.

ACIS is the geometric engine of all software developed by Autodesk. Saving and reading in ACIS format from or to an Autodesk product is done without conversion and therefore without any interoperability issues at the geometry level.

Fusion is also capable of working with design data stored in cloud services such as Google Drive, Dropbox, and OneDrive. Users can collaborate on projects in real-time, share files with team members, and access design files from any device connected to the Internet.

CAD Interop distributes several software programs for viewing and converting Fusion files. Below is a list of our solutions compatible with Fusion:
